District 9 was a prominent New York Hardcore (NYHC) band from the Bronx, formed in the 1990s by vocalist Myke “Puerto Rican Myke” Rivera out of the ashes of the band Close Call. Known for releases like Schoolahardknox (1995), they were a staple of the mid-90s scene and featured in the classic N.Y.H.C. documentary. District 9 drew heavy stylistic inspiration from the authentic, organic intersection of 1990s hardcore and East Coast hip-hop culture.
