Widely regarded as a pioneer of the neo-soul movement. D’Angelo‘s pioneering sound is rooted in 1970s funk (Sly Stone, James Brown), classic soul (Marvin Gaye), and Pentecostal gospel. Merauder is an influential Brooklyn-based heavy metallic hardcore band formed in 1990. Widely regarded as the “Godfathers of Metalcore”, they shaped the 90s NYHC scene by fusing hardcore aggression with heavy metal riffing. Fronted by vocalist Jorge Rosado, their gritty, unrelenting sound reflects their New York inner-city roots. Merauder built their sound on a foundation of thrash, early death metal, and the gritty, groove-driven New York Hardcore (NYHC) scene. No Retreat is a legendary beatdown hardcore band from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, formed in 1993. They are best known for their heavy, metal-influenced sound and their seminal album, Rise of the Underdog (1999). The band was a prominent fixture in the East Coast hardcore scene until their breakup in 2003, shortly after the release of their second album, Pray For Peace. A staple of the Pennsylvania/East Coast hardcore scene. They were primarily influenced by their peers in the late 90s/early 2000s scene, specifically citing Krutch and Fury of Five as early, direct influences.
Furia is a Colombian hardcore punk band formed in 2007 in Tunja, Boyacá. Known for a raw, heavy sound rooted in 80s hardcore and street punk, they are a staple of the Boyacá DIY scene.
